Dream Bank South Africa (DBSA) was founded by a Canadian university student with deep family roots in South Africa and a strong personal connection to the country through years of visits. Witnessing both the challenges and the resilience of young people in these communities sparked a vision: to create a space where girls could feel connected, encouraged, and empowered to pursue their dreams.

At the center of this vision is the idea that meaningful relationships — rooted in friendship, mentorship, and shared learning — can open doors to possibility. Each girl in South Africa is paired with a Canadian “buddy,” offering her someone to talk to, share experiences with, and lean on for encouragement. For high school students, DBSA also provides free tutoring from volunteers with the right academic background, ensuring that every girl has access not only to companionship but also to practical educational support.

DBSA is built on the belief that connection itself is a powerful tool — one that fosters confidence, nurtures aspirations, and reminds every girl that her story matters, her dreams are valid, and her future holds promise.
